I travelelled out to the river again this morning to continue my Dipper study.  I could hardly believe how  fast the river was flowing, it was incredibly fast and  frannkly quite scary.  It wasn't surprising that I didn't see one single Dipper whereas yesterday I had seen (perhaps) 5. It's obvious that they need to feed even when the water is running as fast as  this so who knows where they were. You can see how quickly the river was running by having a look at the video.   We had a very wet 2012 which must have had an impact on the breeding of Dippers, Kingfishers and Grey Wagtails and already this year its' proving o be much wetter than last year and the year before. Only time will tell if breeding is going to be affected this year.

One response to “The river in flood”

  1. our grey Wagtail usually feeds at the Mill leat next door and is usually only seen in our garden when there is snow on the ground . For the first time this year it has visited the garden several times every day for the past 3x weeks !.
It has clearly grown fond of the mealworms we put down.
