Oystercatchers are never easy to get really close to. They are a wading bird that will take advantage of any nearby fields to feed on worms which they probe for in just the same manner as they do on the shore. These were on grass near to Powderham and I took the opportunity to photograaph them using the car as a hide. I was quite interested to see that at least two of a flock of a hundred or so, were sporting a collection of rings, obviously part of a ringing study. I will do some investigation over he next few days and it will be fascinating to find out where they originate.
