Young Cape Fur

A young Cape Fur Seal.  This is an interesting species of seal which is very similar to a Sea Lion. Aparently they are in the same family known as Otariidae. They have eared flaps and they can walk on their front flippers.

Purp Heron copy

Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea).  I photographed this bird at Intaka Island wildlife reserve while I waited for a Malachite Kingfisher to show up.  As it happens I haven't been able to get a decent photo of one before so it was quite a good opportunity.

Purple Heron

This bird was feeding on small fish in a pool in front of a hide which I visited at dawn on the last day of my Cape Town trip.

Fiscal Shrike

This is a young Fiscal Shrike.  I had been watching it for a couple of hours feeding on the opposite side of the pool to the hide.  I did ask myself why it wasn't feeding on my side of the pool and then, as is is usual if you use a bit of patience, it came to my side of the pool and perched on the pool very close to me.
