In the mizzle this morning I wasn't confident of success but went down to the brook regardless anyway. I managed to get myself inside the hide without getting the kit too wet and began today's stakeout. It was quiet, the rain was getting worse and eventually it turned in to a full grown downpour. Amazingly the young male Kingfisher arrived on the low perch at the same time as yesterday, give or take a minute or two. Can that be coincidental, this points to a behaviour pattern surely. I have noted regularly that Kingfishers are actively feeding at around noon so perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised. Exactly like yesterday I saw it look up to the higher log and bob its head repeatedly which is what Kingfishers do when they are judging distance. I knew he was about to fly up and I had already focused the camera on the log in readiness. As he left his perch I fired the shutter and captured the photo I wanted just as he was about to land on the log.
Now he is down.

Kingfishers are messy birds and it's relatively easy to see where they have been perching by the copious amounts of bird lime beneath the perches. I think this makes the point, not actually my favourite photograph, (hardly in good taste).
