I'm getting nearer to that perfect in-flight photo.  Success is dependant on really good light and today just for a few minutes the light was strong enough.  When the bird flew in, I was ready.

Here he is having just landed, not quite on the post but his wings have already been tucked away and he's grabbed a peanut.

Most of the nuts are demolished in seconds and he hesitates before devouring the last one.

He's finished the last nut so now nothing to keep him on the log and he prepares to fly off back to the safety of the wood.

Just before he flies off, he bends his body as you can see, allowing him to spring off from his legs just before he opens his wings, the photo is just a split second before take off.
