When I had walked along the Exeter Ship Canal yesterday I had been pleased to see hundreds and hundreds of Fieldfare and Redwing, thrushes from continental Europe that arrive in the UK to spend the winter in the slightly more amenable climate. They were feeding on berries, mostly hawthorn. My plan today was to pick a bush that the thrushes were feeding on and then try and place myself with the sun behind me with the camera at the ready. I put on my Gillie suit and hood and this proved to be quite a good camouflage. After a few minutes if I stood really still the birds would return to feed. In the end I managed a few good photos of both Fieldfare and Redwing. All in all, with the Merganser photos captured and posted earlier, it was a cracking afternoon.
