A few Black Swans breed around the Exe Estuary, these are feral birds that have moved on from the coastal town of Dawlish which has become famous for them. Black Swans are native to Australia. I have no way of knowing if it is usual to see them on the canal but I do see them often on the nearby River Clyst.
