Whilst not literally speaking, wildlife……. nor is it in my garden! But I am currently experimenting with high speed flaash in order to take better action photographs. I need to be able to freeze the movement of my subjects which will make for some really good photographs. last night, after a day when there was hardly any activity in the garden whatsoever, I set up the camera and flash to experiment and put it in to practice. The camera is set at it's "sync" speed which is less than 1/200 of a second, relatively slow, but the camera captures the very short burst of flash at over 1/10.000 of a second. As it happens, the White Cloud Mountain Minnow (above) didn't really need high speed but it is a great effect. The flash highlights the golden colour of the fish's scales, picking out the detail beautifully. The image at this size is around 8x's life size. I am very impressed with this photo!
So taking my high speed photography to the next level, I set up a bowl of soya milk and then dropped corn in to the liquid, photographing the splashes at high speed to "freeze" the action………. very interesting.
The first one is like a shot taken in space. It is interesting to see how this beautiful things are going on but your eye doesn't capture the scene as it happens so quickly.
Then these others are just examples of the photographs taken.
This is a piece of Popcorn dropped in to a glass of water and I love the way that you can see the way the water has been displaced.
As far as the garden today is concerned…… it has been very wet and windy but clearing a little now. A Blackcap Warbler female was seen earlier and the camera is now set up in the hope that she shows herdelf again. The Brook is flooded and has been for days, so no Kingfisher photos for the time being.
