Green Heron, Haulover
This Green Heron is a great little bird, can't say it's one of my favourites but they are common here and I can't remember a trip to Florida when I haven't sen one. I am guessing that this little bird (above)  is possibly a female as I have before, seen more brightly coloured individuals. Look at it's amazing eye which shines so very brightly in the extremely bright mid afternoon sun.  What was interesting about this bird was the way that it had learned to take advantage of the feeding opportunities around the marina. I watched it balancing on the mooring ropes from "ship to shore" and then I saw it starting to fish. It's balance was amazing because it could literally turn it's self upside down to pick up tiny "bait fish" from the surface.

Just have a look at the way this bird is able to twist it's body and adjust it's feet.

If you are a wildlife "nut" like me then here in Florida, which is so, so, so much more than Disney and Mickey Mouse, there are wildlife spectacles, huge and in your face almost everywhere you look. Even with the  urbanisation of  South Florida which sprawls from one huge apartment block to another, there are birds to see almost constantly. For example there is a huge tower block of 30 floors or so….. Trump Towers  to be exact,  which is home to a massive collection of Turkey and Black Vultures with numbers of over 100 roosting on the top. I'm sure Donald Trump is disappointed about that. Pelicans fly by constantly and I can't resist taking their photo. Their eyes are very impressive as well. This is an adult in breeding plumage.
