The story surrounding this photo is a good one. I really did try hard to get  photos of my Kingfisher in flight this morning. It's not easy but all the same very rewarding and compulsive. I decided to try with a flash to see if I could freeze the action but It proved not to be as successful as I would have liked. To start with there had to be something to photograph and I waited a whole hour before he suddenly appeared 50 yards away, I saw him and thought…. here we go!  He came to the perch repeatedly,  giving me the chance  to experiment and adjust. I was either too soon or too late mostly but then he perched quite close on a high dead stem and I waited with my hand on the shutter for him to dive……… he did and the picture above is the result.

I missed the Otter last night by a fraction of a second. The infrared camera recorded a large ripple, obviously the otter entering the water after sprainting and in the light of day there was obvious signs of him/having been there. Unfortunately the camera wasn't tripped until it had just about moved out of shot. What was interesting though was the time…… 9.57. This proves perhaps that there is no pattern to his presence.
