Welcome whoever you are and from wherever in the world you're from. A happy Christmas and a peaceful new year to you and those you love. Let's  be the custodians of our beautiful world and all the amazing wildlife in it.  In my world there is no politics, no  politicians, no religious zealots, no hatred and the divisions that this brings. We are all special  and we all have a right to breath fresh air and drink clean water.  I want to live in a world where people don't need to choose between eating or planting their last handful of grain.

The bird above is a European Robin- erithracus rubecula, in England a symbol of winter and Christmas. Robins live in close proximity to man. Almost every garden in an English winter will contain a Robin, either male or female. They are impossible to tell apart and both defend their territory in winter time.

They have inherited the behavior of following people around the garden particularly if digging or turning the soil. This is thought to descend from an age when Robins followed Wild Boar and livestock through woodland turning the soil as they rooted for roots and tubers. The Robins learned to forage on the worms and insects exposed. This  behavior is very endearing and makes them a favorite garden bird to all.

A snowy scene. a Pheasant on Marsden Moor today.
