My plan to get better images of the Kingfisher continued today and as it was such a bright morning, I was sat in place in the hide before 9. Yesterday in the late afternoon, I had arranged a very photogenic rotting log upright in the water by securing it in a pot which I then immersed in the water. When I had taken some test shots before I left, I knew it was going to be a good photo if a bird perched on it. So this morning at just after 9, there he was, perched right in front of me and then on the log as you can see.

Even though I have seen him several times now it was still exciting to be this close to a Kingfisher. I know that as birdwatchers and people interested in birds we know that they are quite approachable from a hide but please excuse my enthusiasm. He looked around and down in to the water obviously looking for prey.

Then he dived and came up with a tiny morsel, not a fish but it appears to be a Dragonfly larvae.
After a short while he flew off and even though I had been waiting for this to happen and had the camera ready to capture him in flight, this was the best I could come up with.
