Crab spiderIMGP1977
This Crab Spider – Misumena vatia was in my garden yesterday. I have always been fascinated with this species, I find them very attractive and impressive. They are able to change their coloration to suite their background. Apparently this can take a day or so. The ones I have seen have always been white and it is this colour that I find impressive.
They don't build a web but instead rely on their camouflage to ambush their prey which can include Hoverflies. Wasps and Bees.
This one was on a Citrus pot plant, not a great choice if you are white and the leaves are green! I am impressed by the eyes positioned on the face which seem to number 6 in all, in two rows. Eye sight is an obvious necessity for an ambush hunter.

Health Update.

My condition continues to improve. I am becoming more mobile now, pain is subsiding and I am not so tired. I still find it hard to get up from a lying position because of my cracked ribs, consequently I have not slept in a bed for 16 days. I am hoping to get out and do a bit of bird watching soon but still can't lift my arms nor carry my camera.
