Siskin Portrait

In spite of  very dull weather I thought I would try under these conditions to see if I could achieve some good images. I experimented with the positioning of the hide to try and get the maximum amount of advantage from the prevailing conditions. On a recent outing to Dartmoor I had picked up a nice lichen covered branch which had lots of character and this was positioned close to the feeder. We are still getting more and more Siskins in the garden and today we had about 10 but it's a little bit hard to count them as they come and go. There is a fair amount of minor aggression between birds and thay do not appear to be all that comfortable to accept other birds near to the food source and will chase off any bird which seems like a rival.

It wasn't long as I sat in the hide  before I had visits from several Siskin a and a few Goldfinch.  I concentrated my efforts on the two branches in these pictures and I am very happy with the results.

Siskin on a dull day

I think that this is two different individuals but it is hard to say for sure.
