A very Happy New Year to everyone all around the world. If you are from one of the 28 countries that have visited the Blog in the last three weeks then may I wish you especially warm greetings for a prosperous and peaceful new year.
In the Northern Hemisphere we are in the midst of winter and in the UK under a blanket of cloud kept in place by a high pressure weather system. In some circumstances that would be great but not at this time of the year when cold air from continental Europe is sucked under the cloud by the light prevailing winds. Any heat loss due to the long cold nights is then unable to be replaced by warmer air during the day and the consequence is progressively colder days. Weather lesson over……… it means that birds are less able to find food naturally and are therefore more reliant on garden feeders. This is good for people wanting to see the bird activity in the garden, armchair bird watching is fun. But not good to capture on camera. Light is low and this is usually very important, particular in bird photography. I thought though, that this photo has captured the spirit of the conditions really well.

Collared Doves are a feature of my little garden but only once have I ever had a chance to photograph them on the ground and today was that day. They were so wary however and left as soon as the camera lens closed!!!!!
