just a little series of shots showing the Blackcap feeding on his favourite apple. Today has been a hard one for me to get out in to the garden as I have undergone a 450 mile trip to take my Mother back to her home after spending Chrsitmas with us. A rather hurried journey through the spine of the country in overcast dull weather is not my kind of fun, but duty sometimes calls. The weather did brighten a little on the journey and as I drove I caught glimpses of Lapwings (a plover species) on the Somerset levels. Several roadside Buzzards – buteo buteo as well as Kestrels. In the past I have seen Common Gulls in the Motorway Service Station Car Parks but not today. Pied Wagtails are always to be found in the these car parks and today was no exception. One thing of note was the sign, already and so early in the season of Rooks around their nesting sights. This species is a very early nesting species so I guess they have already paired off and will be building in about 8 or 9 weeks.
Glimpses of Redwings and Fieldfares in the fields verging the Motorway is always interesting, as the weather gets colder perhaps we may have them in the garden again this year… watch this space as they say.
