Dunnock

Dunnocks are an interesting and inconspicuous bird. We have a pair in the garden at the moment. The male is extremely attractive to my eyes and eyes in this species are very pertinent. As a bird ages and gains maturity the colour of the eye gets more attractive and turns a darker shade of chestnut. The bird above is definately a male, he was singing beautifully when these photos were being taken. Male Dunnocks are extremely highly sexed and they may have several female partners on the go! In the hand they can be sexed by their very prominent sexual organs.

  1. Wow you have been busy since I last popped on here – the sites changed a bit and plenty of lovely birds and their photos from your garden
