Today’s weather was just too good to miss and I was making the best of it by 10. The problem was where to go, the tides were not perfect for Dawlish, I had missed the high tides and I was not really hopefull of anything special. So, off to Turf again , perhaps the Heron would be close and the very clear blue sky and bright light would make for a really special photo. Too manner people around for that though, the Heron was constantly put up by other people enjoying the sun. So, relax I told myself and just enjoy the day. I decided to quickly make my way towards Dawlish via Powderham and stop there for a while to perhaps see the Kingfisher that I had been chasing for ages. So, I am sat on the bike , camera set up and a drink in my hand when a Buzzard flew into the nearest tree.
It was not extremely close as you can see but I took photos anyway and was enjoying watching him/her. Then suddenly a mauch larger bird came into view dwarfing the Jackdaw that was hassling iit……… another Osprey. What a surprise, I hadn’t anticipated an Osprey today. I took photos and saw it arguing with the buzzard for the best perch. Not until you see them together do you realise how much bigger Osprey are. I sat it out for two hours , watching until it made a move. Eventually it took flight again and then before I realised it flew directly towards me! I nearly fell over trying to keep my camera trained on it, the lens wouldn’t focus and I thought my chance had gone. Then suddenly it all came together and I got the wonderful shot above. As you can see below it had been quite a distance away, perhaps a quarter of a mile but at least 300 mtrs
