Today’s trip to Exminster was as interesting and fruitful as usual. The Sedge Warblers have changed their behaviour now that the males have been joined by females. Males are very vocal when they first arrive to attract mates to the territory that they have staked a claim to. Once the hens have joined them they go a little bit quieter and less conspicuous. I watched one bird carrying a white feather obviously in the act of nest building.Reed_warbler

Reed Warblers behave in much the same way but it is possible to get a photo if you are patient. I took this one this evening after a wait of at least 25 minutes for him to show himself.
The Hobbies were active and noticeable this evening. I saw 3 perched mainly high on an electricity pylon. It doesn’t make for the best photograph but I am a liitle closer on this image.

An interesting spot today was a Weasel which crossed the road in front of me as I drove to the Marsh. I had a very clear view of him which was exciting.
