Here is a Jay to whet your appetite Gray!!!

This one was taken last week but not visiting on every visit this season yet, but I feel they will eventually.  The ones below are from previous seasons.  I have had some great encounters with them over the last couple of years, here are a few of my favourites.

I just loved this image. Its so much more than just a bird on an old gate.  I love the way the bird is looking at the dead mouse and trying to assess if its safe to eat.  Eventually it decided it was!

They are quite fond of meat, proving what a good job they do to keep everything clean.  Without vultures in the UK, corvids are an important part of the eco system.

They will take a dead day old chick, in fact they are really fond of them and eventually they will come in to this bait. Thats if they can get there before the crows and magpies.

This is an interesting shot, the wind has caught the feathers on the crown and gives the effect of a crest, although you would never describe the Jay as having a crest.  It makes this bird even more attractive but they are a murderous bird in reality.

They absolutely love peanuts, probably above everything else. I have counted how many peanuts a Jay can get in it's crop at one time……it's 19!  They fill the crop , fly off to stash them and then come back for more until they have all gone.
