Robin in the nest

There has been a great new chapter in my nesting Robin story.  With the chicks in the nest box about to fledge  in the next day or so – not sure when exactly but they are fully feathered now –  the female decided that everything was so perfect in my garden that she would build a new nest.  The behaviour of the female has totally changed and she has left the care of the first nest to her male. They are both as tame as wild birds could be, the female particularly,  she will actually land on a dish that I am holding if it contains mealworms. They fly down to me when I go to my polytunnel and only scurry away from under my feet when I walk past them.  It really has been a magical experience. Now to think that she has chosen to nest again is  a real compliment.  This time she has chosen an old parakeet nest box like before, but without a lid, it's not in the old aviary but still inside the shed and still very secure. The absence of lid means that I have been able to fix a gopro camera just above the box.  I switched the camera on for a few hours this afternoon and filmed her in the nest box getting used to her surroundings.  I took a screenshot of the video.  It's not the best image of course because the light is not brilliant but I am optimistic that I will be able to film her with eggs and chicks i due course.  Its going to be a lot of fun.
