I said yesterday that I was certain to be able to post pictures of the garden Robins today now that they are coming in to feed their newly hatched chicks. With both birds away from the nest and sat on the fence I was able to quickly check on the chicks who are nice and healthy with yellow gapes and fluffy sparse down. The parents both came in to the dish of mealworms but interestingly only fed on them and then went off to find some food to feed the youngsters. The male returned with some nice green caterpillars and then disappeared in to the shed with them. So far so good, it's all progressing as it should. Both adults are very, very active and working hard to provide food. It seems that they return to the nest every 15 minutes or so but the female continues to brood the chicks at this stage and as far as I know, I haven't seen her bringing food yet. Females do all of the incubation and it looks like the male is the provider. It is going to be interesting to see if the female starts to bring food when the chicks are slightly older.
