The New World Warblers are beautiful, very attractive, distinctive and a great group of birds to photograph.  They really are delightful.  In the wintertime in Florida you can rely on seeing several warbler species that overwinter here. Palm Warbler is one that I always see and in total over the years I have photographed 10 different ones. On Sunday I managed to catch up with one of the so called commoner species that I haven't photographed before, nor seen for that matter which is a surprise to me. This one is a Yellow -rumped Warbler which is a new species!  New because the Myrtle and Audubons Warblers were once thought to be 2 different species but recently it has been discovered that the two are one and the same with an Eastern race – that's the Myrtle and a Western race – that's the Audubons and in the middle of their range there are intermediate examples of the bird.  I am guessing that this is a female or immature Myrtle as we are in the east of course but my field guides seem to suggest that this is a western bird – an Audubons.  The crescent markings around the eye seem to suggest that?

This is a different individual and I am guessing it as an adult male in eclipse plumage judging by the stronger yellow and stripes on the flanks.  

There is no doubting the next one though, it's a glorious little bird and makes you wonder how it evolved to be so brightly coloured and why the bright colours don't attract predators?  This is a Prairie Warbler, there are another couple of bright yellow species to be seen as well, the Prothonotary and Yellow Warbler but I am yet to see either of these.

These two were photographed at Markham Park which is on the edge of the Everglades National Park.  It was very busy and I am sure if I visited on a quiet week day it would be much more productive.  Amongst the warblers were some small Blue Grey Gnatcatchers which are tiny long tailed birds  that are around the size of a Long tailed Tit.
