Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) is a pretty, delicate little bird with a constantly wagging tail. They have a plumage that varies throughout the year, gaining a black bib during the short period of spring and early summer. They nest alongside water courses and can be found in the same habitat as Dipper. I photographed this bird yesterday when watching for Dippers close to their nest site. Having said that, I didn’t see Dippers yesterday which would indicate to me that the Dippers have started their clutch of eggs. I will be returning to the site in a few minutes to see if there is any activity today. The nest is not accessible so I am not able to check if I am correct. Once the nest is finished, eggs are laid and then the Dippers then keep a low profile until incubation commences, this would explain their absence from the territory mid-morning yesterday.
