Now that I am back in Devon before my trip to Cape Town on Friday, I thought I ought to go and see if I could go and photograph the Waxwings that had conveniently decided to call Exeter Services (on the M5), home for the last few days. It was, as I expected a thrilling experience to see them fly from their perch high in a nearby tree, down to the low bushes to feed on the berries. I stayed for almost two hours waiting for the right moment. I watched to see which berries and which bus they seemed to prefer and then positioned in the hope that I would be able to get a good shot. The light wasn't really good for any stunning shots but I did quite well considering the conditions.
From the M5 I shot off down to Exmouth beach in the hope of seeing and photographing an Iceland Gull that has been seen in the last few days. When I got there I was quite convinced that I wasn't going to be successful, it was far too busy with people enjoying the mild weather and the last of their holidays I made my way to the rocks by the Lifeboat Station for a look. The sun was just about to set and in the few minutes before it dipped behind the hills above Teignmouth in the distance across the bay, the sun cast a bright golden light on a small group of Oystercatchers.
