Black-necked Grebe

Having sat in the house for most of the day, when my wife arrived home at 3.15 I immediately took my turn to have the car and went out with the new camera to try it out.  Already the light was fading and other vehicles had their lights on…… and it was getting darker by the second.  My destination was Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve and the Black-necked Grebe that had been reported yesterday.  It might be a new addition to my Devon Galleries but had I left it too late, would it be there and if it was, would it be too dark?  It certainly would give the camera  a workout.  I got there just as the sun was dipping down and at the main pool, after a bit of guidance by another very friendly birder, there it was.  I snaped away, the camera set to 3200 ISO, almost a ridiculously high setting and I was still only getting about 1/100 of  a second but now I know that my new camera  is really going to do the business.  I couldn't believe the results when I got home, I am staggered that I managed to get any kind of photo at all let alone one that I am pleased with.
