Banded Demoiselle
I took delivery of a new lens today, one that I think will help me to successfully get some Kingfisher in-flight photos.  I am sure that in some situations the lenses that I already own would do the trick but now I think I have every situation covered.  I went backt to the brook today and I sat patiently inside the hide  (as always) but now with the new lens on the camera.  I just had the feeling that it wasn't going  to happen to day, and I was right.  Firstly as I arrived I could see someone pearing over at the perches in front of my hide. Obviously he had seen the Kingfisher and  he had disturbed it.  I made my way there anyway and once inside the hide  I immediately heard a Kingfisher callin nearby but it never did return to the perches today.  After a long wait I could hardly stand it any longer and I climbed out to stretch my legs.  I decided to go home but before I left looked to  photograph the Banded Demoiselles that seem to be realy common on the brook this year. Despite being really attractive this species of Damselfly  is carnivorous and eats small midges and flies which it catches on the wing.  In the photo above you can see, if you look very closely,  that there is a fly in the mouth of the Demoiselle and a wing has already been stripped from the fly and is lying on the reed by the Demoiselles rear left leg.
