Nuthatch Poser_edited-1

What a glorious poser!

I went to the wood quite early (for me that is) this morning , hoping to catch some of the residents bathing. As it happened that didn't seem to be the case, however, I did see the Treecreeper yet again feeding in the same place on the sheer wall of the quarry so I guess that this is a favourite spot for them as I said yesterday.  I decided to move out of my  hide and position myself close to the wall, concealing myself with a combination of clothing and cam netting.  As it happened, the Treepcreeper failed to show again even though I was quite patient, but the Nuthatches just kept coming and I was now very close to the feeding station. I took the picture of a probable male, one of three different Nuthatches that have been visiting  the feeder constantly. Then in the afternoon my hide and feeder were surrounded by  newly fledged baby Nuthatches who were begging from their parents. One of them went down to drink, you can clearly see the difference in the beak colour.  Look at the picture above and you will see that the beak is a dark charcoal colour.  In the juvenile photographed below, look at the beak, the lower mandible is a light pinkish horn colour. Also, compare  the fleshy "new look" of the baby bird's feet and the immaculate unworn nails.
