Jay with chick
I know that this photograph may not be to everyone's taste but if it does one thing, it proves that the Jay, a member of he crow family, is a nasty bird.  It was quite gory to see how it dealt with the chick, (a frozen day old purchased froma a pet food supplier and a by- product of the laying industry).   Eventualy having torn it into mouth size pieces, it removed the head and flew off with it leaving me with a camera full of interesting photographs. for the Blog.

It mouthed it just like I had seen it do before.

But today, it plucked it first and then began to tear pieces off it.

Interesting to see that it held it down with it's foot like a true bird of prey.

…………………then it plucked the down from the breast before breaking it open to get at the chest cavity and the tasty internal bits.
