Here is a sequence featuring the Teignmouth Golf Course Hoopoe, feeding on a Leatherjacket. It first turned up on Tuesday and I caught up with it on Wednesday late afternoon. Hoopoe are a common bird of the Mediteranean region, Portugal, Spain and Southern France and North Africa. At this time of the year there is migratory movement north. If conditions are favourable, or not, as the case may be, some birds over-shoot and a few end up in the British Isles where their presence causes quite a stir. They are about the size of a Collared Dove, very exotic particularly in flight.
