The Rabbit - Oryctolagus cuniculus is in plague proportions currently here in Devon. They are normally mainly nocturnal, but in the fields and roadside verges nearby you can usually see them both night and day at the moment. There are even very young animals already proving that they have had a very early breeding season. Just before dusk last night I watched them in a field close to home and one was very stupid and didn't run for cover as they normally do. Apart from a lack of wariness, it was perfectly healthy. I took a few photos and the results were quite pleasing so I have included one here. It's interesting to see that it has a ripped ear, obviously the product of a fight. I am going to visit this warren regularly over the next few months, you never no what I might be lucky enough to see.
