Eastern Phoebe

Eastern Phoebe

It's been so busy this last few days that I could hardly keep up with  the bog, the editing of pictures and of course, the trips out.  Tomorrow is the end of the stay and I will be very sorry to leave. I have had a tremendous time and the surface has only been scratched. The Eastern Phoebe has been a bird seen on this trip more than I have on other visits and I am assuming that at this time of the year they are common. They are also a difficult bird to get a good photo of due to their colouration. Basically smokey grey and very faintly yellow but mostly white on the belly.   This one was perched on a low barbwire fence surrounding a paddock by the roadside on Sheridan Street way out west. I was able to photograph it from the car as it fed in typical "flycatcher" style which of course is what it is.  It is also a pretty, quiet unassuming little bird that when I have seen them, seemed focused on the search for prey.  An update to this post, having just returned from my usual early morning walk, I photographed a pheobe dealing with a nice juicy spider and it makes quite a shot.
