I photographed this warbler yesterday at Plantation Preserve. My attention was drawn to the contact call which wasn't like a Palm Warbler. It didn't flick it's tail like a Palm Warbler, nor does it have either a rust coloured crown or striations on the flanks. I am unable to give it a name and would appreciate anyone telling me what species it is. Is it perhaps, a female of the rarer Eastern form of the Palm Warbler? (Since I posted Ii have received a comment from Drew Weber……. thanks Drew…….. who tells me that it is an Orange Crowned Warbler, I had almost come to that conclusion my self. I think I am correct in saying that this bird is one that has very few diagnostic features, no wing bars, no supecillium or othe distinguishing marks. This in itself is the way to identify it). It was feeding on tiny seeds or it could have been the egg of some unknown insect, in low bushes very late in the afternoon in golden, but still intense light.
One bird that I am certain of is of course, the Florida State Bird, the Northern Mockingbird.
