One of the species that I have been anxious to photograph on this trip is the Belted Kingfisher. I am extremely interested in Kingfishers and hoping to eventually have a book to publish on the subject. I have now photographed 6 different Kingfishers, only about 84 to go!. The Belted Kingfisher is a hard one to get to grips with because they are alert and easily put to flight. Males are less colourful, the females sport a tan/orange belly band. They are not the most attractive of birds but in flight they have attractive barred markings on the wings and tail.
