It isn't usually easy to get near to Great Black-backed Gull. They are a massive bird, and at times, aggressive and violent. There are lots of photographs in the public domain showing them predating all sorts of other birds and even rabbits. Their diets include carrion, rotting fish and fish waste as well as more natural food. To this end they are performing an invaluable service. Take the beach at Budleigh Salterton, the fishermen empty the crab pots here and deal with them, the crab remains are then scattered for the gulls to deal with.
