Glad to tell you that there was just birds at my pool hide today, (see yesterday's Blog). I spent 3 lovely hours sat waiting for Linnets and still no success with this species……. cant think why they are so hard to photograph compared to other species. As you can see I had another superb day with visits from a pair of Yellowhammer, stunning birds, especially the males. I also had a close encounter with a gorgeous Redpoll. These have bred very well this year as far as I can tell because I see them on every visit now.
On the way to the moor and at the tiny hamlet of Docombe, I chatted to John who farms the land nearby. I asked him about Barn Owls and he said that as far as he knew they hadn't bred on his farm for a few years now. However, he told me about a really isolated barn on his land which he said I could go and have a look at…… what a special place this was. He was right, no owls but it is the place that they would choose if they should return.
