Feeding 1a
Feeding 2a

I went back to the moor today, specifically in the hope of getting these shots. I have been seeing both adults and newly fledged Stonechats these last few days, but oddly no female. As I have said, the male searches for caterpillars from a high perch, and is successful at least 25 times every hour. He then flies away from the grassy area, where the prey is easily found, to the heather covered hillside behind. The chicks, having now fledged, have moved off the hill to the bushes adjacent to the short grass and beg for food whenever the male comes near. Eventually things worked out OK for me, one of the youngsters  was on an exposed branch and in good light and the parent then flew in with food. All in all a good result and some interesting behaviour to observe.
