I had to buy a scanner today for something not associated with birds and wildlife. Now armed with a new toy I have started to scan a few pictures taken on trips from much earlier in my life.  I was very lucky to visit some great places during my time in the Royal Marines Band Service, most I took for granted and didn't really make enough of the opportunities.  This is partly because I didn't own good enough camera equipment, but I do have a few good photos and,  from time to time, over the next few weeks, I am going to post some images that will be of interest.  Some great wildlife opportunities occurred in the Falkland Islands where penguins are such a wonderful breeding species. Our first image is of a couple of Rockhopper Penguins.  I visited a massive  colony of Rockhoppers with a colleague.  It was an impressive sight to see thousands of penguins breeding within inches of each other and to watch them "marching" from the surf  in single file to the colony 100 metres or more in land.
