In my last post I had shown photos of the the nest burrow of  Andrena nigroaenea and promised a photo of the bee as soon as I managed to get one.  It didn't take long  today. As soon as the  sun came out and it warmed up, there were one or two around the burrows on the lawn. It is very exciting to know that this species is in my garden , and probably has  been for years, living ther, unseen and unstudied (at least by me). It is very satisfying to find them and now, to be able to get some great photos as well. This is the same individual and it is a female. I did take another photo of another individual which is smaller, slimmer and a has a richer colour on the thorax…….. probably a male.
