This post is all about macro photography and there is going to be a lot more of it! As I said yesterday, I have recently purchased a ring flash if you don't know much about ring flash have a look at the Wikipedia article by clicking the link. All I can say, is I should have taken the plunge much earlier. I have only used it twice , having owned it for just 24 hours and I am just blown away by the artistic and impressive results. I have admired other people's shots for so long, I just can't believe that I didn't take the plunge earlier.
These Wood Ants are just amazing. I have always been fascinated by ants, and this large species are even more interesting than the smaller species found in our gardens. There seems to be some confusion about how many species of ant there are in the Uk, some say around 50 but the Natural History Museum says nearer 60? Worldwide there appears to be more than 15000.
Eupeodes luniger
Those of you who read the blog regularly will know of my interest in Hoverflies. They are almost as interesting as birds and in the UK there are are almost as many species. I hope you like this photo as much as I do, it is Eupeodes luniger which means a hoverfly with moonlike markings. This one was ovipositing (egg laying) amongst aphids on the buds of Tulip flowers. As it hovered over the plants I managed this shot.
