Friday found me on the outskirts of London after a visit to Heathrow Airport. Whilst we were in that part of the world, my wife Jenny spent the afternoon with her mother in Claygate and I visited Richmond Park to see what I could find. It's always nice to visit something different and I find the park fascinating, smack in the middle of mayhem and suburbia, this is a true oasis. I am sure that Henry VIII would be amazed to see how it has endured. We are not talking about a tiny field and a few trees, this place is huge! There is a small herd of Red Deer that are semi-domesticated, well they are at least used to seeing people. They are magnificent of course. In the short time that I was there, I saw Green Woodpecker, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Goldcrest and the usual flocks of Ring-Necked Parakeets. It was a nice afternoon. Here are a couple of Red Deer, a Stag and and a Doe.
Oh, and this Heron was standing waiting by a pool quite close to the road. They are usually a very shy bird and will take flight easily but from the car, as a hide, I managed to get shots before it flew.
