Bohemian Waxwings are fantastic! We have had a great winter for them this season and I have been fortunate enough to have seen them on three separate occasions. They are stunning, fascinating and above all gorgeous birds. What makes them so interesting? Well they breed in the Ural Mountains and also Northern Scandinavia and when the berry trees fail to produce in their home territories they disperse far and wide to find food. Every few years they arrive here in the UK. This winter has seen a big invasion and it's worth reminding yourself that this is by no means even an annual occurrence and it might be another 5 years before we see them again. Yesterday I saw them and took some great photographs as they fed on trees next to the road, a very busy road on the local trading estate. I sat on the low wall of the largest car dealership in the City and watched as they came to feed on a Rowan tree right on the edge of the pavement. Fantastic!
