This is obviously not a Blackcap but I tried all day long to photograph the Blackcap warbler male that has been showing in my garden for the last few days. I had several opportunities for photographs but just didn't quite get it right. It seemed like as soon as my back was turned he would appear on the piece of apple and then sneak away when I tried to photograph him. Then, as Murphy's Law dictates, I did manage to photograph this nice little Blue Tit doing exactly what the warbler had been doing only minutes before. In all, we had both Blue and Coal Tit, Dunnock, Robin, Collared Dove and Blackbird on the feeder today. It has been a great day weather-wise as well, but I have been stuck in doors waiting for my new camera to arrive. Very frustrating! I came in to a little bit of cash and decided, before the VAT increase , (VAT is purchase tax in the UK and due to rise to an exorbitant, and obscene amount……. 20%on January 1st), to buy a new camera. It is a Pentax K5, their update to the K7 with better sensors and a few other improvements which will help me to take better photos, particularly in low light conditions………… we will see!!!!! It wasn't too much of a hardship staying in and waiting for an opportunity to photograph the Blackcap. I saw it on at least 6 different occasions. I didn't really do a very good job but it was fun trying.
What did frustrate me though in the great weather, was not being able to visit a new hide that I put up the other day. It is close to an area where I always see Snipe, a species that I have not got good photos of (yet). I am expecting, with lots of patience, to get them to come within 10 feet of me. Of course, they won't know I am there and should get used to the hide in their territory. It is positioned amongst large sedge and reed by a very boggy area and I always, without exception, see Snipe here whenever I visit. It is well camouflaged , with the light coming from behind me and giving me great clear views of a nice photogenic area. Should be very fruitful I really hope and expect that to be the case….. check back!
