We had our first German Blackcap in the garden today (a female), at around 1230. This is one of those migrating birds from the continent that wisely choose to over-winter here with us rather than continue south and end up in Spain or North Africa. Last year, the first one was spotted on 28th November and amazingly, exactly the same day the year before, whereas in 2007 I had seen them on November 16th.  Either way, they have arrived in the garden well before previous years. Does this mean we are in for a bad winter? Who can tell.

I have seen my Kingfisher lots of times today but I think she was upset on Thursday when I had to emege from the hide and she was in front of me……. she has not been to the hide since.  It’s only a 2 days ago so I am sure she will be back. I did get a nice little Wren visit again and here is the photo to prove it.

Check back because there is still a few hours left and I am hoping for more Kingfisher and perhaps even a Blackcap photo! Heres a Dunnock, Britain’s most under rated bird, feeding in the garden at 1430!
