I always try to post the evry best images that I can here on my Blog, and even though the Pied Wagtail in the UK, is probably one of our most well known birds, they are also well loved by all. They are interesting though because the “Pied Wagtail” is actually a sub-species of the White Wagtail, a much more familliar bird on continental Europe. From time to time “Motacill alba” is seen here in Britain but is in the main replaced by “yarellii”. But back to these pictures, They were taken from the car as I was looking for a much rarer migrant species, Snow Bunting. There had been reports of Snow Buntings in North Devon regularly in the last week and having checked out directions, my wife Jenny and I went to see if we could find and photograph them. They had been seen almost every day for the last week at Northam Burrows which is a fascinating area close to Bideford and Westward Ho! Sadly no sign of them when we got there and so I missed out on this species yet again. One day!
The Wagtail was feeding in the grass by the car park and in the lovely sun I took these very nice pictures which didn’t make the 110 mile round trip worthwhile, but at least we got something to post on the Blog. Devon is a massive county by UK standards and can you believe that you can travel so far and still remain in the same county. Incidentally there are more roads in the county of Devon than the country of Belgium!
