This last few days has seen heavy and quite consistent rain here.  The Alphin Brook, home to my Kingfishers has flooded it's banks. It is now receding and I can actually see my hide again! This is going to present REAL problems for the Kingfisher who will have a serious difficulties finding fish in the flood.  This is the first real test of her short life and I am praying that she managed to get enough to eat over the last few days.  In her favour is the quite mild conditions so she wont be using valuable energy to keep warm.   I have replaced the perches in front of the hide to encourage her to stay around (if she is still with us).  I walked the muddy banks a few minutes ago and there was no sign of her so far, but I will keep looking.  When this happened last winter, the young male (resident) Kingfisher didn't seem to suffer too much so, all being well, she will be OK. I will keep you informed.

Yesterday, with my 14 month Granddaughter in residence for the week, life revolves around her at the moment,  but I took the family out to South Devon;  Totnes, Dartmouth and Broadsands  and of course the camera came too!  A few usuals seen and I snapped away at anything interesting and  photogenic apart from her. On the River Dart at Dartmouth I got very near to a Shag that was fishing close to the pontoons but it had moved away from camera range before I could get a shot even though it had caught a nice eel at one time.
