It's exactly a year and one week since I started to get really close to the Kingfishers on my local brook. Since then I have had, getting on for 100 close-up encounters, (I still meet people who say they haven't seen one)!!!!! This morning, I was up before the sunrise and watched it appear beautifully and cast a bright golden glow over everything it touched. I went to the hide and was sat in there before it had "come around the corner" as it must to cast it's rays on the the Kingfisher perch. I was praying that it would all come together, that is, bright sun and the arrival of her ladyship! The light was getting stronger as every minute ticked by and just at the right time, There she was. She posed in the beams of light and I knew that I was getting some awesome shots (I only allow myself an awesome on very special occasions…. Americans, take note). She stayed for 9 pictures, and then off she went to carry on fishing. The spot in front of my hide is not the most prolific area for fish, but always worth a look and she will come and check it before flying off to catch elsewhere.
I had a lovely day out with Jenny, walking the Exton to Exmouth footpath, and back. It was quiet at first and we didn't have to dodge too many cyclists. But mark my words, someone will get seriously injured along this multi-use track because there are idiots on racing bikes flashing by at 30 plus mph while parents totter along with very young children! The weather remained glorious and sunny throughout. Then, in the early evening I took my video camera down to the hide and took some film of the kingfisher arriving at the perch, posing for a while, and then departing downstream. Check back to see that, it will be posted later. In the meantime enjoy the photos.
