I had another great session today at my “new venue”. Like yesterday it took a while for the birds to accept the hide but as soon as they did, after around 40 minutes, they were back to give me some great photo opportunities. I have to say that Black-tailed Godwits are really photogenic, particularly when they open their wings.  This one just had a bit of a stretch and I quickly got a shot. Then there was a bit of a tussle amongst a pair and this made for a good shot but it was not 100% unfortunately.

One of the things that I have found very interesting is to see that birds exist together by foraging on totally different food prey. For example, the Black-tailed Godwits are eating Harbour Ragworm exclusively and the Curlew seem to look for small crabs. You would think that the Curlew, with an extremely long bill would be foraging deep in the mud but this is not the case here. Common Sandpiper are also present and they appear to be chasing after insects as far as I can tell. In this way, several different species can co-exist together.
I plan to get some better shots of the Curlew but I find them very easily spooked. However, given a bit more patience and effort, I am sure that eventually I will get really close, at least once!.

I really liked this picture when I looked again, hope you do too?
