Holly Blue a
We have had several flying Holly Blues in the garden  this last few days and today I managed to get a nice photo of the species to make a record. Last year, I think I am correct in saying, they were totally absent from the garden but I have had them in previous years.  This is probably due to the involvement of a parasitic wasp that is solely dependant on the Holly Blue, I have read that their populations do fluctuate from year to year. They apparently also have a preference for honey dew which will explain why this one was on my bean plants and not on a flower.

Bird life has gone extremely quiet this last two days since the Sparrowhawk visit.
