A notable day so far. Thinking things through a bit more I decided to get up earlier in the hope and expectation of observing some feeding behaviour. By 6 20 I was sat in the hide and within 2 minutes a KF had arrived, it's very good when that happens. It only stayed momentarily, then left as quickly as it had arrived and flew off upstream. "What was going on" I thought? "Why had it not lingered as normal?" After a few minutes I saw a KF fly by in the same direction and thought that it was odd as I hadn't seen one fly by in the other direction, it must be another bird, I thought. Then one came back and perched on the variety of perches that I had set out. There was a bathing session and it caught a fish and I took these photos. The light was bad and I had the camera adjusted to try and get something in flight which was not successful. I either missed the head of the bird as it flew out of shot, or the tail as I was just a bit too soon with the shutter. After a short while, the bird flew off but as it was still very early, and well before 7, I stayed to see if "she" came back. Very soon "she" did and I watched her for a while before she moved on as well . I was back home and looking at the images on the Mac by 7.30ish. and it wasn't until then that I had a good look at the bird and realised that I had photographed yet another different bird, this time a young male. Young males, like adults have all black beaks whereas females have an orange colour to the lower mandible. Not the best pics in the world but interesting as it is the 5th different Kingfisher photographed from the hide in the last 11 months.
